PORTLAND – Three cruise ships, carrying a total of more than 4,000 passengers, will stop in Portland this weekend.

The Independence, operated by American Cruise Lines, tied up in Portland this evening. It leaves Saturday with 98 passengers for a cruise along the Maine coast.

Saturday, the Enchantment of the Seas will arrive with about 2,250 passengers. The ship, operated by Royal Caribbean, will arrive at the Ocean Gateway International Marine Terminal about 10 a.m. and leave about 7 p.m., headed for Bar Harbor before ending a nine-day cruise in Baltimore.

On Sunday, the Arcadia, operated by P&O Cruises, a subsidiary of Carnival Corp., will stop in Portland. The ship, carrying 1,856 passengers, started out in Southampton, England, and will head north to St. John, New Brunswick, after leaving Portland about 6 p.m. Sunday. 

More than 90,000 cruise ship passengers are expected to arrive in Portland on 65 ships this season, which runs through the end of October.
