PORTLAND — About 1,600 people participated in the city’s second Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure this morning.

Runners and walkers, who completed a 5-kilometer loop starting and ending at Payson Park, raised more than $140,000 for breast cancer awareness and research, said race organizer Ned Flint.

Flint said participation was up by about 300 people from last year – the first time Portland hosted the Komen race, which is held in cities throughout the world.
