AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage is directing that flags in Maine fly at half-staff in remembrance of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Nine-eleven is also the topic of the governor’s weekly radio address. He calls the attacks 10 years ago one of the greatest tragedies ever to happen on American soil. While he says the attacks forever changed our people and nation, they have not conquered our spirit. LePage asks Mainers to take a moment to reflect on the American spirit.
In their response, Democrats talk about 9-11 too. Rep. Michael Clarke of Bath says he was among the rescue teams called into action after the 2001 attacks in New York as a Bath Fire Department captain. They joined in the rescue and recovery efforts in the rubble of the Twin Towers.
