The Maine Indians won the Men’s Senior Baseball League Northeast Regional championship in the 45+ division at Albany, N.Y. The Indians outscored opponents 52-12 in the two-day tournament held over Labor Day weekend and beat the Albany Golden Marlins 9-4 in the championship game. Ed Simmons was named tournament MVP after hitting .538 with 11 RBI. Other top players were Jim Westcott (.692 OBP), Clair Crandall (.500 average), Lenny Fox (.571 OBP) and pitcher Larry Murphy and Dan Proctor.

David Garland of Scarborough recorded his first career ace on the 17th hole at Nonesuch River Golf Course on July 19. He used an 8-iron for the 135-yard shot, witnessed by Jack Connolly, Jon Tudor and Bill Heywood.

Marc Siewertsen used a pitching wedge to ace the 150-yard eighth hole at Dunegrass Country Club on Sept. 4. The shot was witnessed by Denny Siewertsen, Bobby Lawson and Nate Nealey.

Gene Stone of Scarborough hit a hole-in-one on the 15th hole on Sept. 5 at Willowdale Golf Club. He used a 7-iron for the 147-yard shot, which was witnessed by Jo Morris.

Mike Lano aced the 168-yard 15th hole at Gorham Country Club on Sept. 10. He used a 5-iron for the shot, which was witnessed by Arnie Benner, Bill Cloutier and Mike Mogan.
