AUGUSTA — Forestry officials say Maine’s foliage season should be better than average this fall.
The Maine Department of Conservation says the hot and dry July and the heavy rains from the remnants of Hurricane Irene last month shouldn’t have any negative effect on the leaf-peeping season.
The department on Wednesday put out the first of its weekly foliage reports, which are available online at www.mainefoliage.com.
Forest rangers around the state say there is very little leaf color now and very little leaf drop so far.
As days get cooler and shorter, the leaf colors will gradually change from north to south through late October.
