WHITEFIELD -— A Whitefield man involved in a four-hour standoff with police after pointing a loaded shotgun at his neighbor’s head is behind bars.

Police said around midnight Thursday, 39-year-old Peter Poland, who was drunk at the time, went to his neighbor’s house on Mills Road and accused him of tipping off police about some illegal drug use.

After the neighbor’s niece convinced Poland to leave, she called the police.

The state police tactical team was called in when Poland refused to leave the house. After four hours, police went into the house to arrest him.

Poland is in the Two Bridges regional jail and is being charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, police said. He may be arraigned today.
