CORNISH — Lord Stanley’s cup is headed to Cornish.

The cup, won by the Boston Bruins this spring, will be the guest of honor at a private dinner at Krista’s Restaurant on Main Street on Sept. 28.

“But it will probably make a lap or two through the crowd,” said Krista Lair, owner of the restaurant.

Lair said the visit is being arranged by Jim Bednarek, an executive with the Bruins who also has a home in Cornish and is a frequent customer at the restaurant.

Lair said the dinner is private and by invitation only, but a table for eight is being auctioned off to raise money for to benefit student athletes in Maine School Administrative District 55.

An outdoor barbecue also will be held to raise more money for the scholarship.

“We feel honored in this little town, having it brought here,” Lair said.

The Stanley Cup is expected in town for only a few hours, she said, and will head back to Boston for the night.

This story was revised at 9:55 a.m., Sept. 19, 2011, to clarify that the auction will benefit student athletes in Maine School Administrative District 55.
