BIDDEFORD — The University of New England has broken ground on a $20 million athletics complex at its Biddeford campus.
When it’s completed, the 105,000-square-foot Harold Alfond Athletic Complex will include an ice hockey rink with 900 seats; a basketball court with 1,200 seats; classroom space; a fitness center; and multi-purpose indoor practice courts that can also be used for performances and other events. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday.
The Harold Alfond Foundation has committed $10 million toward the project.
The facility is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012.
