INDUSTRY — State police today arrested Jay Stephen Mercier, 55, of Industry, and charged him with murder in connection with a 31-year-old unsolved Anson homicide of Rita St. Peter.
The body of St. Peter, who was 20 at the time of her death, was found off Campground Road in Anson on July 5, 1980, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.
Mercier was indicted earlier this month by the Somerset County grand jury, after . He was arrested at his 5 Butterfield Lane home in Industry about 8:30 a.m. without incident, and is expected to make his first appearance in Somerset County Superior Court on Tuesday, McCausland stated in a release.
