KENNEBUNK — Nearly 500 students from Kennebunk Elementary and Sea Road schools celebrated the opening of the Eastern Trail Bridge over Interstate 95 this morning.
The bridge completes a 6.2-mile section of the Eastern Trail from Kennebunk to Biddeford. Miles the Turnpike Moose led students across the bridge shortly after 11 a.m. garnering many horn honks from motorists traveling north and south on the turnpike below.
“I’m just awe-struck,” said John Andrews.
Andrews, who founded the Eastern Trail Alliance 14 years ago, said the bridge has been a mission for him from the beginning. Seeing it complete and in use today was a dream come true.
