Colby cruises past UM-Farmington by scoring a pair of second-half goals

Cami Notaro scored 13 minutes into the second half to break a scoreless tie and Colby College went on to defeat the University of Maine-Farmington 2-0 in a women’s soccer game at Waterville on Tuesday. Marissa Simmons added an insurance goal for the Mules with 19:10 left to play off a cross from Maddie Tight. Colby improved to 4-2 while Farmington is 3-3-2.

Senior forward Katie Caron scored two goals as the University of New England (7-1-1) blanked the University of Southern Maine (2-7-0) 4-0 at Gorham. The UNE goalies, Jess Woodworth and Sarah Papapietro, had no saves and UNE’s defense has gone four games without allowing a goal.

MEN’S SOCCER: Mark Mangini and Aaron Kolb scored second-half goals to give New England College a 3-1 win over the University of New England at Henniker, N.H. Dan Crear put the Nor’easters (2-6) ahead in the 28th minute, but Corey Barbo pulled the Pilgrims (4-4-1) even 10 seconds before halftime.

GIRLS’ SOCCER: Beaver Country Day School defeated Berwick Academy 3-0 at Chestnut Hill, Mass. Berwick is  0-3-2.

FIELD HOCKEY: Tilly Burzynski, Izzy Eldridge and Anna Wright scored a goal apiece to lead Berwick Academy to a 3-0 win over Beaver Country Day School at Chestnut Hill, Mass.

BASEBALL

SEA DOGS: The Portland Sea Dogs will open the 2012 regular season April 5 with a doubleheader at Reading against the Phillies, according to their newly released schedule.

Portland’s first home game is April 12 against the Binghamton Mets and the team will play just 10 more home games in April. Individual tickets will be sold at the Hadlock Field box office beginning Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. Season tickets are currently on sale.
