FARMINGTON – The University of New England set a school record with its 10th straight win to open the season, defeating the University of Maine at Farmington 2-1 on a goal by Erin Bibber with 5:59 remaining.

Emily Koehler opened the scoring for the Nor’easters 1:22 into the second half. The Beavers (4-3) tied the game on a goal by Kaitlyn Bullen in the 58th minute.

Kaitlyn Warren made seven saves for UNE, which set a school record with its 10 win to open the season.

USM 2, SALEM STATE 0: Kailey Bubier scored 4:45 into the game and added a goal 10:05 into the second half as the Huskies (6-5, 3-1 Little East) downed the Vikings (3-4, 0-4) at Gorham.

Kayla Kennedy made one save to record her fifth shutout of the season for the Huskies, who outshot the Vikings 23-1.

COLBY 5, THOMAS 0: Sarah Falkof scored 3:17 into the game and the Mules (1-4) pulled away in the second half against the Terriers (4-5) at Waterville.

MEN’S SOCCER

COLBY 4, USM 0: Eric Barthold scored off a pass from Andrew Woonton with 7:16 left in the first half and the Mules (4-2) added three second-half goals to pull away from the Huskies (2-7) at Waterville.

The victory was the 250th career win for Colby Coach Mark Serdjenian in 36 seasons with the Mules.

ST. JOSEPH’S 2, SUFFOLK 1: Zach Johnson scored in the 66th minute to lift the Monks (6-2, 3-1 GNAC) over the Rams (3-7, 2-2) at Somerville, Mass.

Jesse West scored with one minute left in the first half to pull St. Joseph’s into a 1-1 tie.

BATES 5, HUSSON 0: Tina Tobin scored two goals to lead the Bobcats (1-2-2) to a win over the Eagles (2-8) at Lewiston.

Laura Dobish, Dakota Donovan and Alix Vandeventer added one goal apiece for the Bobcats, who led 2-0 at halftime and outshot Husson 36-9.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 3, UM-AUGUSTA 1: Molly Gallagher scored off Bethany Gullbrand’s second assist of the game to break a 1-1 tie and help the Seawolves (3-2) to a win at South Portland.

ST. JOSEPH’S 3, SIMMONS 0: Danielle Daigle scored twice as St. Joseph’s (4-2-2, 3-1-2 GNAC) shut out the Sharks (3-6, 2-3) at Boston.

Lauren Chouinard also scored and Jaci Lorenzen made eight saves for the shutout.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 8, CENTRAL MAINE CC 4: Katelyn Benson and Emily Boivin each tripled for the Seawolves (3-3) at Auburn.

NOTES

AMERICA EAST: The conference announced that its nine men’s basketball teams, including the University of Maine, will participate in ESPN’s Sears BracketBusters Feb. 17-19.

The Black Bears will host a game, possibly on Feb. 18, when the opponent on their schedule is listed as TBA.

The three-day event features 13 games televised on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN3, and matchups and televised games will be announced Jan. 30.
