OAKLAND, Calif. – Screenwriter David Zelag Goodman, known for the 1970s movies “Straw Dogs” and “Lovers and Other Strangers,” has died in California at age 81.

Daughter Kevis Goodman told the Los Angeles Times her father died Monday of a brain disorder at an assisted-living facility in Oakland.

Goodman shared an Oscar nomination with Joseph Bologna and Renee Taylor for co-writing the screenplay for the 1970 comedy “Lovers and Other Strangers.”

He teamed with director Sam Peckinpah to co-write the screenplay for the 1971 thriller “Straw Dogs.”

Goodman’s other film credits as writer and co-writer include 1970’s “Monte Walsh,” “Logan’s Run” in 1976 and the 1978 thriller “Eyes of Laura Mars.”
