PORTLAND — The Portland Pirates concluded their brief exhibition season with a 2-0 win today over the Manchester Monarchs before a crowd of about 1,500 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Ryan Duncan (2nd period) and Ashton Rome (3rd) scored for the Pirates, who got two assists from Igor Gongalsky.
Pirates goalie Justin Pogge had 30 saves for the shutout.
In their only other exhibition, the Pirates played to a 2-2 tie with the Albany Devils Friday night. The game was stopped after two periods because of unsafe ice conditions in West Springfield, Mass.
The Pirates open the regular season 7 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
