BOSTON — Morgan Sewall of Scarborough won the novice ladies figure skating competition at the New England Regional Championships this afternoon at the Skating Club of Boston.
Although she fell while attempting a double axel and finished second in the free skate, Sewall, 14, had built up a large enough lead in winning the short program Monday night to clinch the overall title with 104.97 points to 103.66 for runner-up Marissa Gottlieb of Sudbury, Mass.
Gottlieb placed fourth in the short program and won the free skate, scoring 68.44 to Sewall’s 67.59.
