A Cumberland County Sheriff Deputy attending the National Forensic Academy at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville was the victim of a crime early Wednesday morning.

The deputy’s cruiser was broken into and his assigned duty firearm, photo identification, badge, camera equipment, flashlight, as well as some personal items, were stolen.

The deputy is staying in a gated complex at the university for the 10-week academy. His assigned cruiser is unmarked.

The Knox County police and sheriff’s office are investigating the theft.
