WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nutrition directors from five area school districts are invited to a reception at the White House this month, hosted by first lady Michelle Obama.
The directors are being recognized on Oct. 17 for their efforts to improve the nutritional value of school lunches, according to a news release.
They are: Ron Adams of Portland schools, Deborah Dolley of Falmouth schools, Judy Goodenow of Freeport-based Regional School Unit 5, Andy Madura of the Lakes Region School District and Darlene French of Boothbay schools.
Less than 2 percent of schools nationwide, including 18 schools from those five Maine districts, are being recognized for meeting the HealthierUS School Challenge, a part of the first lady’s Let’s Move! campaign against childhood obesity, according to the release.
