Early morning sunlight plays off frost-covered marsh grass along the Mousam River in Kennebunk on Thursday as fall descended upon the region. Overnight temperatures were expected to plummet into the 30s, with a hard freeze likely for some inland areas, meteorologists said. In contrast, however, abundant sunshine and high temperatures approaching 80 are forecast for much of the weekend.
