ORONO – Klas Leidermark scored the only goal for the University of Maine men’s hockey team in a 2-1 loss to Merrimack tonight at Alfond Arena.
In the season and Hockey East opener for both teams, Maine finished 0 for 9 on the power play and the Black Bears were unable to convert a 5-on-3 advantage for 1:20 in the second period.
Jeff Velleca and Jesse Todd scored for the Warriors, who led 2-0 after the second period.
Martin Ouellette made 25 saves for the Black Bears (0-1, 0-1 Hockey East) while Joe Cannata made 22 saves for Merrimack (1-0, 1-0 Hockey East).
Maine hosts Northeastern at 1 p.m. Sunday at Alfond Arena.
