WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Bates raced to a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes and beat Williams 35-26 Saturday in a New England Small College Athletic Conference football game.

Trevor Smith completed two touchdown passes to John Squires as the Bobcats (2-1) opened an early lead against the Ephs (1-2). Smith completed 9 of 17 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns.

Ryan Curit added 102 yards rushing on 11 carries for the Bobcats, scoring on a 2-yard run with 2:59 left in the third quarter.

The Bobcats matched their best start through three games since 1982 and won consecutive games for the first time since 2002.

BOWDOIN 27, TUFTS 6: The Polar Bears (1-2) got touchdown interception returns of 100 yards by Griffin Cardew and 99 yards by Joey Cleary to beat the Jumbos (0-3) at Somerville, Mass.

Zach Donnarumma had a 3-yard touchdown run and Sean O’Malley caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Grant White, who was 13 of 16 for 101 yards. Donnarumma gained 100 yards on 28 carries.

WESLEYAN 28, COLBY 21: LaDarius Drew scored his third touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run with 1:36 left to lift the Cardinals (2-1) over the Mules (0-3) at Middletown, Conn.

Colby rallied to tie the game on a 45-yard run by Nick Kmetz with 11:11 left in the third quarter and a 56-yard run by Luke Duncklee with 9:07 remaining in the fourth.

Kmetz completed 16 of 23 passes for 184 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown to Spenser Merwin, and also rushed for 51 yards on eight carries. Ian Borthwick added 74 yards on 18 carries for the Mules.

MAINE MARITIME 36, WESTFIELD STATE 34: Matthew Rende scored on a 25-yard run on the first play of the second overtime and Tom Marcisso ran for the 2-point conversion to lift the Mariners (4-1, 2-1 NEFC) over the Owls (2-4, 1-2) at Westfield, Mass.

Rende rushed for two touchdowns and 151 yards on 21 carries and completed three passes for 41 yards and a touchdown.

GALLAUDET 35, HUSSON 0: The Bison (3-2, 2-0 ECFC) limited the Eagles (0-5, 0-2) to 159 yards and forced seven turnovers to win at Washington, D.C.

Kash Keezer completed 17 of 36 passes for 169 yards for Husson, and Ben Foss had seven receptions for 80 yards.

OLD DOMINION 31, RHODE ISLAND 23: Taylor Heinicke threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another to lead Old Dominion (5-1, 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association) over Rhode Island (1-4, 0-2) at Kingston, R.I.

UNH 47, VILLANOVA 17: Kevin Decker threw three touchdowns and ran for another, leading New Hampshire (4-1, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association) to an easy win over Villanova (1-5, 0-3) at Durham, N.H.

NOTRE DAME 59, AIR FORCE 33: Tommy Rees threw four touchdown passes in the first half as Notre Dame (4-2) built a big early lead and rolled over Air Force (3-2) at South Bend, Ind.

PENN STATE 13, IOWA 3: Silas Redd ran for 142 yards and Matt McGloin capitalized on a fourth-quarter turnover with a touchdown pass, leading Penn State (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) past Iowa (3-2, 0-1) at State College, Pa.
