PORTLAND — Gov. Paul LePage is joining Portland Mayor Nick Mavadones for the formal dedication of the city’s new cruise ship terminal.

The 1,200-foot Ocean Gateway Pier II — sometimes called the “megaberth” — is designed to accommodate the world’s largest cruise ships.

The floating pier opened on Sept. 10 and the press got its first look a few days later. Today marks the formal dedication and ribbon-cutting.

Mavodones says the $6 million project completes the city’s vision of creating an area that meets the needs of residents, businesses and maritime industries. The cruise ship Celebrity Summit, with more than 2,000 passengers, will serve as the backdrop for the ceremony.
