HOULTON — A 64-year-old man has pleaded guilty to helping a young man who’s charged with a triple murder in northern Maine.

Robert Strout of Orient pleaded guilty today in Aroostook County Superior Court to hindering apprehension and arson for his role in the June 2010 slayings in the town of Amity.

By pleading guilty, Strout acknowledged helping 21-year-old Thayne Ormsby, of Ellsworth, set fire to one of the victim’s vehicles and dispose of a knife before driving Ormsby to New Hampshire. Ormsby faces three counts of murder in the stabbing deaths of Jeffrey Ryan, Ryan’s 10-year-old son and neighbor Jason Dehahn.

The Bangor Daily News says Strout will serve two to four years in prison in exchange for his testimony at Ormsby’s murder trial, which hasn’t been scheduled.
