ORONO — The University of Maine women’s basketball team is being chosen to finish last in the America East conference in the annual preseason poll of head coaches.

UMBC was picked to repeat as conference champions, followed by Boston University, Hartford, Binghamton, Albany, New Hampshire, Vermont, Stony Brook and Maine.

Maine is coming off a 4-25 season in which they finished last in the conference.

The team opens its season Nov. 11 with a game at Central Connecticut State University.

New head coach Richard Barron takes over the team from Cindy Blodgett, who was fired last March after four years at the helm.
