National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29.

If you have medications you no longer use, never needed, or are expired, do not flush them down the toilet or throw them in the trash. And don’t keep them around the house where they might get into the wrong hands.

Dozens of sites around Maine will accept unused and expired prescription or over-the-counter medications for disposal, no questions asked. Local police departments will hold collections in many communities. To find a take-back site near you, call your local police station or go to: www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/
