Safeguard all drugs at home. Keep count of pills and control access.
• Set clear rules for teenagers about all drug use, including not sharing medicine and always following the medical provider’s advice and dosages.
• Be a good role model by following these same rules with your own medicines.
• Properly conceal and dispose of old or unneeded medicines. Collection events are scheduled statewide on Oct. 29. An alternative option, if necessary, is to mix them with used coffee grounds or cat litter and throw them in the trash. Do not flush them or store them in an accessible place.
• Ask friends and family, such as grandparents, to safeguard their prescription drugs as well.
