PARIS — France’s defense minister says a French fighter jet fired on the convoy carrying ousted Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

Gerard Longuet told reporters in Paris on Thursday that the French strike stopped the convoy of about 80 vehicles heading for Bani Walid, but did not destroy it.

He says that fighters on the ground then intercepted the vehicle carrying Gadhafi himself.
