LEBANON — A Lebanon man was in police custody tonight following a standoff with police at his home on Upper Guinea Road in Lebanon.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine State Police, said 35-year-old Jason Pelletier was charged with criminal threatening and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The standoff started around 2 p.m. when a state trooper went to Pelletier’s home to check on the well being of Pelletier’s seven-year-old son.

Pelletier refused to let the trooper see the child, which led to a confrontation. Pelletier’s dog somehow became involved at which point the trooper called in the state police tactical team.

Members of the tactical team and a negotiator began talking with Pelletier, who eventually released the boy before surrendering peacefully to police. The boy, who was not harmed, is being cared for by his mother.

There were no firearms displayed during the incident but police did find firearms inside the home.
