TOWNSHIP 6 — A hiker from Massachusetts had to be carried out of the woods over the weekend after slipping on rocks and injuring her ankle.
The Maine Warden Service says 48-year-old Karen Chase of Marblehead, Mass. was hiking on the Brook Trail on Tumbledown Mountain north of Weld at about 4 p.m. on Saturday when she slipped.
At first it was feared she had suffered a broken ankle, but the injury turned out to be a bad sprain.
Chase was carried off the mountain on a litter and all-terrain vehicle, then examined by paramedics, but did not require hospitalization.
