CONCORD, N.H. – Corey Grigas made 12 saves and stopped two shots in penalty kicks to lead SMCC (13-2-1) past Paul Smiths College 1-0 in the Yankee Small College Conference men’s soccer championship game Sunday.

Keith McClure scored the deciding penalty kick goal after four of the first five shooters scored for each team. Grigas stopped the final try for Paul Smiths to end it.

FIELD HOCKEY

ST. JOSEPH’S 4, COLBY-SAWYER 0: Peyton Dostie and Rachelle Messuri had a goal and an assist apiece to help the Monks (10-5, 8-1 NAC), down the Chargers (3-13, 1-8) at New London, N.H. Stephanie Lombardo and Sarah Bartell also scored for St. Joseph’s, which outshot Colby-Sawyer 14-1.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

ST. JOSEPH’S 3, MOUNT IDA 0: The Monks (7-4-4, 6-3-4 GNAC) used goals from freshmen Doe Leckie, Elizabeth Calnan and Kim Jordan to beat the Mustangs (2-13, 1-11) in Newton, Mass., and claim the seventh seed in the conference tournament. Jacqueline Lorenzen made four saves for the shutout. St. Joseph’s will play at No. 2 Johnson & Wales on Saturday.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 2, MAINE 0: Brooke Duchaney and Stephanie Gilkenson scored first-half goals to lead New Hampshire to a 2-0 win over Maine at Durham, N.H.

Alli Rozelle, Kelsi O’Neil and Chelsea Kuss had assists for the Wildcats (5-11-2, 3-4-1 America East). Erica Correa made two saves for the shutout. Meagan Price-Leibenzeder made five saves for Maine (4-9-1, 2-6).

FOOTBALL

BCS POLL: Oklahoma State moved up to third in the BCS standings, replacing rival Oklahoma as the team behind LSU and Alabama best positioned to reach the national title game.

Two championship contenders lost for the first time Saturday, when Oklahoma and Wisconsin went down. That cleared some of the traffic atop the standings and left Oklahoma State, fourth-place Boise State, fifth-place Clemson and sixth-place Stanford in a tight race.
