PORTLAND — The impact of the Arab Spring protests that have swept across the Mideast will be the topic of a presentation today at the University of New England.

Anthropology Professor Daniel Varisco of Hofstra University will lead today’s presentation and a public reception prior to the talk at the school’s Portland campus. The talk will take place at 5 p.m. in the WCHP Lecture Hall.

The political protests started in Yemen last February and have brought the country to the brink of civil war. Protests in one country quickly spread to neighbors, creating a domino effect in nations where power has long been concentrated in the hands of absolute rulers.
