ROCKPORT  — Police say a 19-year-old man being treated for drug abuse caused about $30,000 worth of damage when he went on a rampage at Pen Bay Medical Center.

Rockport police say the teen had used so-called “bath salts,” a synthetic stimulant that’s been linked to disorientation, extreme paranoia and violent episodes.

Officer Wesley Butler tells WZON-AM that the teen was quickly restrained on Thursday night and had to be treated for cuts and bruises to his arms.

Butler says the teen destroyed almost anything that wasn’t bolted down in the special care unit.

No one else was hurt.

His name was not immediately released.

Once the teen is well enough, he’ll be transferred from the hospital to jail.
