FREEPORT — Camp Sunshine is holding its annual pumpkin festival fundraiser featuring 6,000 lit jack-o’-lanterns.

Today’s fundraising festival is being held from noon to 8 p.m. at the L.L. Bean store’s Discovery Park in Freeport. Besides the display of lit jack-‘o-lanterns, the festival also features a pumpkin tower, a pumpkin house and other pumpkin displays.

All proceeds from the event go to help Camp Sunshine, a national retreat on Sebago Lake for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. The camp has set a fundraising goal of $60,000, enough to sponsor a week at the camp for 40 families in need.

Camp Sunshine holds the record for the most lit jack-o’-lanterns in one place at one time. The record was set in 2006.
