BRUNSWICK – Dakota Foster scored two goals and Paige Tetu had three assists as second-ranked Brunswick beat No. 3 Oxford Hills 5-0 in an Eastern Class A girls’ soccer semifinal Saturday.

Brunswick moves on to the regional final at No. 1 Bangor on Wednesday. Bangor advanced with a 5-0 win over Waterville.

After earning a pair of 1-0 wins over the Vikings in their regular-season games, the Dragons (15-1) put this one away with three goals in the final five minutes of the first half, opening up a 4-0 lead.

Brunswick missed a pair of promising chances early before Alyssa Andrews cleared the ball after a frantic scramble at the left post among the Dragons’ Anna Cowan and Caley Nicholson and Oxford Hills keeper Bre Martin midway through the first half.

Thirty seconds later, Brunswick had the lead when fullback Cassandra Murano worked a give-and-go with Allison Hill near midfield and then dribbled through two defenders before driving a 10-yarder inside the far right post.

“I don’t usually do that because I’m a defender,” said the senior co-captain. “When I started dribbling I didn’t expect it, but I saw open space so I kept going. We wanted to get one early and put them on their heels.”

Foster gave the Dragons their first two-goal lead against the Vikings in three tries when Tetu launched a perfect corner kick from the left to the back post, and Foster headed it into the near side with 4:42 remaining in the half.

“We knew we wanted to get that first goal, but we started kind of slow,” said Foster. “But Cassandra scored a great goal to get us started, and then we just got into a rhythm.”

Cowan scored 58 seconds later, grounding a 15-yarder into the left side after a pass from Tetu, and Becky Champagne made it 4-0 by converting another Tetu corner inside the near right post with 31.7 seconds remaining before intermission.
