Just fewer than 3,000 Central Maine Power Co. customers were without electrical service Monday evening, a figure that is expected to drop even lower before the night is out.

CMP spokesman John Carroll said most of those customers without power live in York County, where the weekend snowfall was heaviest. The heavy snow caused tree branches to fall on power lines.

Carroll said a number of York County customers likely will be without power for another night, but the company expects to have everyone back on line by noon Tuesday.
