PORTLAND — The Maine Red Claws today announced that 15-year NBA veteran Donyell Marshall has been named the team’s assistant coach under Head Coach Dave Leitao.

Marshall, the fourth pick in the 1994 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, played for eight teams during his tenure in the NBA: Minnesota, Golden State, Utah, Chicago, Toronto, Cleveland, Seattle and, most recently, Philadelphia.

“I am excited to have Donyell Marshall on staff,” said Leitao. “He knows what it takes to be an NBA player, and he has a wealth of experience and knowledge to share with our players. I am excited at the way this season is shaping up.”

Marshall, 38, joins the Red Claws following a stint as the assistant coach for George Washington University. He retired from a 15-year career in the NBA in the summer of 2009.
