PORTLAND — Portland police searched the Occupy Maine encampment in Lincoln Park this afternoon after receiving two, separate reports of man dragging a screaming child into a tent.

Acting Police Chief Mike Sauschuck said police sent a team of four officers to the encampment shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday to investigate complaints about a young girl with red hair screaming for help.

The anonymous tipsters said the girl, who was around three years old, was seen walking along Pearl Street before entering a tent at the Occupy Maine campground accompanied by a man and a dog.

“We did a walk through but were unable to find anything,” Sauschuck said. “It was unfounded.”
