LEWISTON — Heartless thieves have added to the misery of residents of a Lewiston apartment building made temporarily uninhabitable by a fire.

Police say someone broke into the three-unit Pine Street home and stole 21 items from two of the empty apartments, including electronics, toys and power tools. Some of the items stolen belonged to construction workers renovating the home.

Displaced resident Krystal Johnson tells the Sun Journal  she was ready to move back in to her apartment damaged by the Nov. 1 fire. She returned to her unit to find it in a shambles, with drawers spilled onto the floor and anything of value gone.

The building was secured, but the thief found a way in.

Thirteen people, including nine children, were displaced by the blaze.
