Operation Christmas Child, donated items may be dropped off between noon and 3 p.m. today and Sunday at Green Memorial AME Zion Church, 46 Sheridan St., Portland. The project began in 1993 to distribute shoe boxes filled with various supplies to needy children overseas. Items generally include school supplies, toys, necessity items and a note of encouragement. Tracking technology allows donors to “follow” their box to the destination country where it will be hand-delivered to a child in need. To register shoe box gifts and find out the destination country, use the Follow Your Box donation form at www.samaritanspurse.org/occ. For more information, call (518) 357-2284 or visit www.samaritanspurse.org/occ. Shoe box gifts are collected all year at Samaritan’s Purse headquarters in Boone, N.C.
