BIDDEFORD – Beth Suggs made the second of two free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining to give the University of New England a 63-62 win over Rhode Island College in a women’s college basketball game Saturday.

Kari Pelletier finished with 17 points for the Nor’easters (2-0). Liz LeBlanc added 12 points, and Suggs and Kelley Paradis each chipped in with 11.

BRYANT 65, MAINE 53: Naana Ankoma-Mensa scored 20 points to lead the Bulldogs (2-1) past the Black Bears (1-2) at Orono.

Ashleigh Roberts scored 10 points for Maine.

SOUTHERN MAINE 85, UMPI 44: Courtney Cochran had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Nicole Garland scored 19 points as the Huskies (2-1) defeated the Owls (0-3) in the UMF Dunkin’ Donuts Tip-Off Classic at Farmington.

COLBY 79, CLARK 57: Rachael Mack scored 20 points, and Jil Vaughan had 16 points and 16 rebounds for the White Mules (1-0) in the Brandeis Judges Classic at Waltham, Mass.

BOWDOIN 65, RPI 61: Kaitlin Donahoe and Jill Henrikson scored 19 points apiece, and the Polar Bears (2-0) beat the Engineers (1-2) in overtime to win the Bowdoin Tip-Off Tournament at Brunswick.

CASTLETON STATE 67, ST. JOSEPH’S 66: Despite 20 points and 12 rebounds from Ashley Geel, the Monks lost in the championship game of the Rutland Herald Tip-Off Tournament at Castleton, Vt.

COLBY-SAWYER 72, UNE 69: Will Bardaglio had 14 points and eight rebounds to help the Chargers (1-2) edge the Nor’easters (1-2) in the consolation game of the Keene State Tip-Off Classic at Keene, N.H.

Timmy Maines scored 16 points for the Nor’easters.

BOWDOIN 66, UMASS-DARTMOUTH 61: Will Hanley had 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Polar Bears (2-0) past the Corsairs (1-2) in the final of the Hampton Inn Classic at North Dartmouth, Mass.

BARUCH 74, COLBY 63: Eric Beaulieu had 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Mules (0-1) in a loss at the New York University Tournament.

CASTLETON STATE 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Jade Werger jammed in a loose puck at 3:57 of overtime to give the Spartans (3-3, 3-1 ECAC East) a win over the Huskies (2-2, 2-2) in Gorham.

PLATTSBURGH STATE 7, BOWDOIN 0: Chelsea VanGlahn scored four times as the Cardinals (5-0-1) used six third-period goals to put away the Polar Bears (0-1) at Brunswick.

CROSS COUNTRY

NCAAs: Matt Rand of Cape Elizabeth and Molly Carl of York earned All-America status at the NCAA Division III championships in Winneconne, Wis.

Carl, a junior at Southern Maine, finished 27th in the 6-kilometer women’s race with a time of 21 minutes, 35.4 seconds.

Rand, a junior at Tufts, completed the men’s 8-kilometer race in 24:36.1, finishing in 19th place.
