BURLINGTON, Vt. – Daneille Ward scored twice, and Brianne Kilgour added a goal and two assists Wednesday to lead Maine to a 5-2 victory against Vermont in a women’s Hockey East game.

The Black Bears (8-5-4, 3-3-1 Hockey East) scored three times in the second period against the Catamounts (2-9-4, 2-6).

Kilgour put Maine ahead 2-0 with a short-handed goal 1:46 into the second period. Ward converted a power play about 1:15 later and made it 3-1 on a two-skater advantage with 3:05 left in the period following a set-up by Kilgour.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

(2) KENTUCKY 88, RADFORD 40: Terrence Jones scored 17 points, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 15 points and nine rebounds to help Kentucky (5-0) beat Radford (3-4) at Lexington, Ky. 

(3) OHIO STATE 107, VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE 74: William Buford scored 23 points, and Jared Sullinger added 17 and 12 rebounds to lead Ohio State (5-0) past VMI (3-2) at Columbus, Ohio.

GEORGETOWN 91, (8) MEMPHIS 88: Jason Clark hit a big 3-pointer in overtime and scored 26 points, helping Georgetown (4-1) hold off Memphis(2-2) in the fifth-place game of the Maui Invitational at Lahaina, Hawaii.

(9) BAYLOR 75, TEXAS-ARLINGTON 65: Quincy Miller had 17 points and 11 rebounds as Baylor (5-0) beat Texas-Arlington (3-1) at Waco, Texas.

(13) ALABAMA 82, ALABAMA A&M 45: Charles Hankerson, Jr. had 16 points and nine rebounds, Nick Jacobs added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Alabama (6-0) won its 23rd straight home game, beating Alabama A&M (2-2) at Tuscaloosa, Ala.

(15) MICHIGAN 79, UCLA 63: Zack Novak scored a career-high 22 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 20 and Michigan (5-1) rolled over UCLA (1-4) for third place in the Maui Invitational at Lahaina, Hawaii.

SAN DIEGO STATE 61, (23) ARIZONA 57: Chase Tapley scored 17 points, San Diego State (6-1) bolted to a 17-point lead in the opening minutes and never trailed at Tucson, Ariz., in a victory that broke a 22-game home winning streak for Arizona (4-2).

HOLY CROSS 80, HARTFORD 66: Jordan Stevens and Devin Brown scored 17 points each and hot-shooting Holy Cross (2-3) defeated Hartford (0-5) at Worcester, Mass.

Stevens made 6 of 7 field goal attempts and Brown was 7 of 10 as the Crusaders shot 56.6 percent (30 of 53), including 13 of 22 in the second half.

Holy Cross blew open the game with an 18-0 run in the first half. Malcolm Miller’s 3-pointer with 3:25 remaining in the first half gave the Crusaders a 35-19 lead.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

(14) KENTUCKY 81, NEBRASKA-OMAHA 48: A’dia Mathies flirted with a triple-double finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds and eight steals as Kentucky (5-0) beat the Mavericks (2-2) at Lexington, Ky.

The Wildcats struggled early to separate themselves from Nebraska-Omaha, consistently holding a one-possession lead well into the first half. With a 15-12 advantage, the Cats’ full-court press forced turnovers on five straight possessions and scored 11 points on those opportunities.
