CANTON, Ohio – The Maine Red Claws never fully recovered from a poor first quarter and lost to the Canton Charge 106-90 Tuesday night at Memorial Civic Center.
The Red Claws (4-7) made just 6 of 25 field goals in the first quarter, while Canton (6-5) made 11 of 21, including 6 of 7 3-pointers.
The Charge put together an 11-0 run midway through the quarter to go ahead 26-10.
Keith McLeod accentuated Canton’s long-range shooting success with a half-court buzzer-beater that made it 34-15.
Backed by a 10 points from Kenny Hayes and a 21-7 rally, Maine cut some of the deficit in the second quarter, outscoring Canton, 29-18.
Maine was able to get it to 47-44 with 1:08 left in the half. However, Dante Milligan made a layup and McLeod hit another last-second 3-pointer to get it to eight, 52-44.
Maine got as close as five, 54-49, on a 3 by Dominic Calegari, but stumbled the rest of the way.
Durrell Summers led Maine with 15 points, followed by Anthony Kent and Hayes with 14 apiece and Paul Harris and Calegari each with 11.
McLeod, who made three 3-pointers, had 23 points for Canton.
