Facebook class for seniors

The Portland Public Library is offering a three-week class this month to teach seniors how to use Facebook.

The class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 10, 17 and 24 at the library.

The course will cover building a Facebook account, privacy settings and advanced settings like uploading videos and sharing web links.

Exhibit on jailed women

A photo exhibit, “More Than a Rap Sheet: The Real Stories of Incarcerated Women,” will be shown this month at The Freeport Public Library.

The exhibit, hosted by Family Crisis Services, will open at 1 p.m. Saturday at the library. The exhibit features photographs and poems of Maine’s incarcerated women. The agency’s staff and women from the project will discuss the photos and read select poems.

Family Crisis Services, the domestic violence agency for Cumberland and Sagadahoc counties, has been working with incarcerated women at Cumberland County Jail and Maine Correctional Center since 2000.

WINDHAM

Grief support meeting

VNA Home Health & Hospice will offer excerpts from Dr. Alan Wolfelt’s book “The Wilderness of Grief” at Tuesday’s grief support meeting.

The meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the North Windham Union Church, 723 Roosevelt Trail. The subject of the meeting will be “Transforming Yourself through Grief.”

This is an open group for anyone grieving the death of a loved one.

Historical society meeting

The Scarborough Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the society’s museum and meeting room, 647 Route 1.

The meeting will be followed by a presentation from Mary Pickard and Bruce Thurlow, who will show historic pictures of Scarborough.

The audience will be encouraged to speak about any of the images shown. The meeting is free and open to the public. The presentation lasts about an hour.

FALMOUTH

Prep classes for March SAT

Maine Prep’s SAT prep classes for Falmouth-area high school students will be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Tuesdays from Jan. 11 through March 6 at the Falmouth Public Library, 5 Lunt Road.

The eight-session course will prepare students for the March 10 SAT. The classes are designed to teach students strategies to use in the math, writing and reading sections.

Community bonfire

The Waterborough Historical Society will light a community bonfire at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Taylor/Frey/Leavitt House field in Waterboro Center.

There will be refreshments and music. People can leave their discarded Christmas trees in the designated area.

Sisters visit Middle East

Sarah and Kateland Oakes will give a presentation about their visit to the Middle East at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Camden Public Library.

The two sisters recently took an extended trip to the Middle East during the Arab Spring uprisings. The Oakes sisters saw and experienced peace and beautiful culture and met many incredible individuals while in the Middle East.

Help with financial aid form

Judi Brewer, a financial aid specialist at the University of New England, will give a presentation Thursday about how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Garland Auditorium.

FAFSA is required by all colleges for financial aid consideration. Brewer will explain financial aid terminology and FAFSA deadlines.
