CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The St. Joseph’s softball team evened its record to 3-3 Thursday with victories against two opponents, beating Stevens Institute of Technology 4-2, then shutting out Mount St. Mary of Newburg, N.Y., 9-0.

Against Stevens, the Monks posted single runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings.

Maddie Kluna singled home Lindsay Moore in the second, Kim Jordan scored Connie Grovo on a single in the third and Victoria Ramos came home on a sacrifice bunt by Grovo in the fourth.

The Ducks (3-4) scored two in the fifth before the Monks posted another on a single by Kluna the following inning.

Rae-Mare Copan allowed seven hits and a walk, and struck out one for the win.

Copan got into trouble in the seventh and was relieved by Theresa Hendrix with runners on first and second and no outs.

Hendrix eventually hit a batter to load the bases, then ended it with a strikeout.

Against the Knights (0-1) in the second game, Kluna pitched a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts for her first win and Emily Leverone had four hits with three RBI.

The Monks scored three in the fourth on an RBI double by Moore and a two-run single by Maria Labbe. Leverone hit a three-run double during a five-run seventh.

FREDONIA ST. 5, BATES 2: Danielle Shlep pitched a three-hitter for the Blue Devils (6-2) against the Bobcats (0-1) at Clermont, Fla.

AnnaMarie Martino had two hits for Bates, which scored both runs in the seventh.

BATES 6, WESTFIELD ST. 5: Kelsey Freedman of Falmouth won her first career start and the Bobcats won their first game against the Owls at Clermont, Fla.

Freedman allowed five hits and struck out six.

Karen Ullmann, Courtney Talcott, Lauren Dobish and Mary Lewis each had two hits for Bates (1-1).

BASEBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS CURRY: The Monks (6-1) capitalized on six errors to win the opener 5-2, and needed extra innings to edge the Colonels (2-5) 2-1 at Auburndale, Fla.

The Monks scored two unearned runs in the second inning, and one in the fourth and fifth innings.

Sam Butts hit an RBI single in the sixth.

Butts, Mike Pratt and Alex Markakis each had two hits.

Kyle Neagle ended the second game when he plated Nic Lops on a one-out single in the eighth.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

ST. JOSEPH’S 18, HUSSON 10: Cassie Diplock and Anneka Adame each scored five goals as the visiting Monks won their opener against the Eagles (0-2) at Bangor.

Husson trailed 7-6 with 5:05 left in the first half after consecutive goals by Abi Staab and Haley Huntington.

The Monks closed the half with three straight goals and got the first five of the second half for a 15-6 lead.

WHEATON 19, SOUTHERN MAINE 7: Hailey Colburn had six goals for the Lyons (2-1), and the Huskies (2-2) never recovered from a seven-goal rally in the first half at Gorham.

Colburn scored twice during the stretch, which left the Huskies trailing 7-1 nearly 10 minutes into the second half.

Shelby Turcotte and Rosie Forster each had a pair of goals for USM, and Emily Garry, Jacki Kelly and Lauren Santo also scored for the Huskies.
