UNION — A thief stole a brand new  bucket loader from a dealership in Union this morning by starting up the earth mover and ramming the locked gate.

State police are looking for the public’s help in finding the $40,000 piece of equipment, a shiny orange mid-sized Kubota L45 tractor with scratches on the bucket.

The equipment was stolen from Union Farm Equipment on Route 17 at about 2 a.m.

Trooper Jeremiah Wesbrock said a man jumped the dealership fence, started the tractor and used the bucket to ram the fence, according to a press release. He then drove it up a ramp onto a truck. Police have some security video of the episode.

A motorist saw the truck with the tractor on it driving toward Augusta at 2:20 a.m., the release said.

Police ask that anyone with information call 1-800-452-4664.
