EAST MILLINOCKET — Investigators have been unable to determine what caused a fire that destroyed a concrete factory in East Millinocket.

Sgt. Ken Grimes of the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office says the extent of the damage at Lee’s Redi Mix Concrete Inc. has prevented an investigator from finding the source of the fire.

The cause of the fire has been labeled as undetermined.

Several insurance company representatives and investigators who were there Tuesday to survey the scene agreed with Jacobs’ ruling, Grimes said.

“At this particular point, unless we get any more information, the case will be listed as inactive for us,” Grimes said, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Firefighters had suspected that the fire on Friday morning was caused by a wood stove or recent electrical work.

When they first arrived, firefighters saw flames burning through the roof and one side of the building. Several large plastic drums inside the plant were also on fire.

The News says no injuries were reported.

Investigators found nothing that indicated foul play, Grimes said.

The fire chief said that most of the company’s equipment appeared salvageable.
