Actress Helen Hunt has Maine roots that may be mentioned in tonight’s episode of the NBC genealogy series, “Who Do You Think You Are?”

Hunt, best known as the female lead in the 1990s sitcom “Mad About You,” recently visited the historic Neal Dow House in Portland, home of the Maine Woman’s Christian Temperance Union.

One of Hunt’s ancestors helped to start the union in 1875, according to Janet Perkins, a leader of the local group.

At one time there were 1,000 unions across the country, each dedicated to stamping out widespread alcoholism and its impacts on society.

The producers of the TV series videotaped some of Hunt’s visit to the Dow House, Perkins said.

The show airs at 8 p.m. on Channel 6.
