PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Officials say 30 mph-plus winds may delay the removal of the next part of the Memorial Bridge, which connected New Hampshire to Maine.
A million-pound counterweight in the bridge’s South Span was taken down over the weekend, leaving just the empty tower.
A float-out of the 800-ton South Span is planned by the end of the week, but the strong winds may interfere with those plans.
Work crews began dismantling the nearly 90-year-old bridge earlier this year. A new one is planned connecting Portsmouth to Kittery, Maine, next year.
