STANDISH – St. Joseph’s used two late rallies to secure a pair of baseball victories Friday against the University of Maine-Farmington, beating the Beavers 8-3 and 9-3.

The Monks (25-3) trailed 3-0 in the opener but got two back in the fourth on a single by Nic Lops and a double by Peter Allain. They tied it in the fifth on a homer by Mike Pratt, then took the lead with five runs in the sixth, on a home run by Brandon Chase, an RBI single by Dan Achorn and a three-run double by Alex Lorenc.

The Monks put the second game away with another five-run sixth, on four singles and a double.

BOWDOIN 12, TRINITY 11: The Polar Bears (15-8, 3-1 NESCAC) jumped out to an 11-1 lead and held off the Bantams (19-6, 6-1) at Hartford, Conn.

Bowdoin scored seven runs in the fifth inning on five hits and two errors. Aaron Rose, Tim McGarry and John Lefeber all drove in runs in the rally.

Dan Findley had three hits for the Polar Bears and reached base six times.

Ian Edwards struck out the side in the ninth to preserve the win after giving up a solo home run.

TUFTS 14, COLBY 4: Dave Ryan struck out 13 in seven innings the lead the Jumbos (13-6, 4-3 NESCAC East) over the Mules (9-12, 0-4) at Medford, Mass.

Taro Gold had two hits and two RBI for Colby. Nikolas Atsalis also had two hits and scored twice.

SOFTBALL

BOWDOIN 4, TRINITY 3: Casey Correa led off the eighth inning with a home run to give the Bobcats (18-8, 1-3 NESCAC) a win over the Bantams (8-12, 2-5) at Brunswick.

Toni DaCampo tied the game for the Polar Bears in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out homer. Correa hit an RBI triple in the fourth inning.

Winning pitcher Melissa DellaTorre allowed six hits and struck out eight.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS RIVIER: The Monks (24-4, 17-1 GNAC) won the opener 5-2 and the second game 11-0 in five innings against the Raiders (20-8, 12-6) at Nashua, N.H.

Maddie Kluna pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the first game. Lindsey Moore had and Theresa Hendrix each had an RBI as the Monks scored three runs in the first inning. Danyelle Shufelt hit an RBI double in the fifth and Hendrix homered in the seventh.

Heather Tripp hit a two-run homer and Hendrix added a solo shot in the four-run first inning of Game 2. Maria Labbe also homered.

TUFTS 5, COLBY 2: Brianne Wheeler and Lindsay Peterson each drove in a run for Colby (7-14, 0-4 NESCAC) in a loss to Tufts (20-3, 7-0) at Waterville.

BRIARCLIFFE SWEEPS SMCC: Southern Maine Community College (8-19) lost a pair of games against Briarcliffe, 8-0 and 9-0 at South Portland.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

CONNECTICUT: Freshman center Andre Drummond declared for the NBA draft.

He averaged 10 points and led the team in rebounding (7.6 per game) and blocked shots (92).
