SACO – Police are investigating two “strong armed robberies” of local businesses which occured Sunday and Monday. A strong armed robbery is one in which no weapons are used but the suspect uses force or fear against the victim.

The first happened about 11 p.m. at the Cumberland Farms market on Elm Street. Police said an employee reported that a man entered the store, said he had a weapon, and demanded cash. No weapon was displayed. The man made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police said the suspect was described as about 5’ 9” to 6’ tall, with a thin build, short curly hair, and wearing a gray, black and white colored sweater style shirt and possibly yellow and black plaid shorts.

In the second incident, reported Monday at 1:41 a.m., a taxi driver for Twin City Taxi told police that a customer he picked up on Middle Street said he had a weapon and demanded cash. The passenger was described as as being in his 30’s, with a thin build, short brown hair and scruffy looking, and wearing a gray pullover style sweatshirt and blue jeans with holes near the knees.

The passenger fled on foot on Middle Street, with an unisclosed amount of cash.

A police K-9 unit was called in to work on both robberies.

Video images of the Cumberland Farms suspect are being used by police as part of their investigation. If anyone recognizes the suspect or has information about either incident, they are asked to contact the Saco Police at 282-8216
