BURLINGTON, Vt. — The U.S. Border Patrol has accused seven immigrants working on a construction project at the University of Vermont of being in the country illegally.

The Burlington Free Press reports federal agents say two Mexican nationals overstayed their work visas and five others failed to go through a mandated inspection at a border entry station for the United States.

The group, arrested at a motel in Essex, is awaiting hearings before an immigration judge.

The men were part of a crew working on the Redstone Lofts, a 403-bed independent living development.
